To the hurried viewer the stars may look like they
are in total disarray. But no, look closer-- and longer:
Each occupies its assigned position, together creating an unmistakable picture of God's power to save. He Whose plans know no haste or delay, Who hung each star in such a way that it would proclaim His majesty, has a place for everyone... a place where, if surrendered to the constraint of His will, each can proclaim God's power, and shine with all His might.
"He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names..." and He has "called thee by thy name." Psalm 147:4, Isaiah 41:3
"The stars of heaven are under His control. He fills them with light. He guides and directs their movements. If He did not do this, they would become fallen stars. So with [us]. ... Through [us] His light is to shine forth. ... As [we] make God [our] dependence, He will give [us] His brightness to reflect to the world." AA 586-7
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." Daniel 12:3

Very inspiring post, Rachel! Star gazing always gives me a sense of my weakness and smallness compared to the vast universe; and it draws forth praises to God that little else can do. Lying on a hill with only the stars covering my peripheral vision is truly an awe-inspiring way to commune with God!
I also love that picture of Orion, and all that that symbolizes!
